President, Maria Jaramillo, Executive Director, Central Regional Educational Cooperative.
Let me start by saying how humbled I am to be serving as your NMCEL President for the next two years. There’s a lot to be done and I am excited to work with all of you to continue to support the educators who teach our students. As prioritized by your NMCEL Board this summer, we must continue our collaborative stance as leaders partnering with all who have an interest in our public schools. I believe with the amazing NMCEL board and staff, we are poised to help NMCEL reach its potential as the leader in public education.
As I reflect on the past few years in NM, it would be easy to allow feelings of frustration and at times, disbelief to cast a continuous negative shadow over our profession. However, I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by positive influences on a daily basis in my interactions with people like you who not only inspire hope, but are assisting our students and educators to be the next generation of effective leaders. Lucky for me this constant reminder of how things could be, is the fuel that keeps me going year after year. Leaders not only see how things are but also how they could be…I look forward to going on this journey with you.
If you were able to attend the NMCEL conference last month, you would have been awe struck by Manny Scott (keynote speaker). What an incredibly inspirational speaker…he pulled at our heart strings. But you would have also been as inspired by our scholarship recipients – Annie Hernandez from Hobbs HS and Marisa Ann Luna from Estancia HS. Two unbelievably articulate and well poised young ladies! Our future is bright!
Please feel free to share your suggestions, concerns, and thoughts with us regarding NMCEL. We look forward to hearing from you. Have a fabulous start to the 2017-18 school year!
Yours in Education,
